GAME DESCRIPTION
Geometry: A World Without Squares is a 2D game trying to depict discrimination via personification with shapes.
In this world, every shape unanimously agrees that squares are a disgrace, and should be "dealt with". You are trapped inside a building; the objective is to find a key and exit the level, what's stopping you?
Rhombuses are searching for the player constantly, they spawn in different locations and (via A* pathfinding) use the shortest path to reach you.
Stars have a set patrol path, if you get in their way, suffer an almost instant death. Stars will also shoot on sight, one projectile is a simple red circle that travels to the location you were at when it spawned. The other projectile stars can shoot are Parallelograms. These projectiles are homing however despawn after a short period of time.
Ovals are slightly different. They are not out to damage you, they are here to make your life harder. The green oval can flip your controls, the purple oval will make you slower, and the orange oval will make you larger.
The first level is more of an exploration where you have to locate one of the two keys and then find the exit.
With the use of the Gestalt Law of similarity, the second level emulates a chase scene where you will eventually choose different coloured paths to escape the rhombuses.
I decided to use geometry for my characters as it can present different types of discrimination. Due to all types of shapes attacking a single square it can have different discriminatory values (e.g racism, gender, age). The game's difficulty is intentional as it can also present how hard life can be when being discriminated against; especially when it feels unwarranted or obtuse.
